Careers Programme Overview
Entering the Skegness Academy Sixth Form is an exciting time for exploring your options and planning your bright future. It is one of the most vital points in your education and self development, so it is essential that you have the best support and guidance to make realistic informed decisions about your future.
The careers programme within the Sixth Form offers information, support and guidance to suit your individual needs and is designed to help you realise and fulfil your potential.
You will be offered one to one careers guidance interviews where you will be able to be open and honest about your ideas, concerns or questions. Together we can then draw up an action plan of the steps you need to take to achieve your careers/educational goals and also put a back-up plans place. In addition to these one to one sessions there will also be group workshops on completing CVs, cover letters, application forms and sessions on writing personal statements and applying to university.
You will be encouraged to explore and research your career ideas, to assist you to do this; you will have easy access to a wide range of careers literature. There are also a number of careers programmes; Careerscape and Kudos which provide up to date information. These are accessible via the Academy’s computer network.
In addition to these resources; throughout the year there will be a number of careers inspired group sessions and assemblies by the Sixth Form team and guest speakers covering a range of career areas, UCAS and student finance. There will also be the opportunity to gain further work experience to compliment your studies and provide further insight into the labour market. To help to inspire you further, there will be visits to university open days, taster visits, the annual HE convention, Careers Fairs and input from local industry and employers.
So whatever your career ideas, we hope to prepare and empower you to aim high, plan and manage your future success in the exciting opportunities which lie ahead of you.
