Year 7
In our Year 7 base, our pupils have been busy with creative projects and some exciting activities are planned based around the Literacy curriculum:
William Hussey, the Skegness author, is coming in to the Skegness Academy on Wednesday 29 February for a presentation in the Year 7 assembly and he will also be holding writing workshops for pupils throughout the day.
‘The Westenders' theatre company is coming in to the Academy from Monday 12 March to work with thirty of our Year 7 pupils. The week will culminate in a performance of "Blitz Kids" to be held at the Southview Hotel on Friday 16 March - parents are warmly invited to attend to see their children's work. I am so pleased that we are able to offer our pupils this fantastic and exciting experience of working with a real theatre company, including a musical director, choreographer and script-writer that regularly perform on stage themselves. Auditions are in progress and what talent we have! We will certainly have a difficult job selecting the thirty pupils needed.
The Baseround Newsletter is produced by our Gifted and Talented writers in Year 7 and the team are currently working on projects with Sarah Payne, a reporter from the local ‘Target' newspaper. We are also extending this opportunity to some of the Gifted and Talented pupils from our primary partner schools.
Finally, seventeen Year 7 pupils have been selected to publish their work in a Young Writers competition. The pupils worked on an adventure type genre - Mini Sagas in fifty words, Swashbuckling tales from England - and will have their work published in a book on 30 April. We go on to another national competition where there is a range of cash prizes for schools so fingers crossed!
