This week we are celebrating everything the Arts at Skegness Academy. Each day we will post on an area of Arts and Culture Education that deserves to be celebrated. Today we are celebrating our Craft, Design and Technology offer. Here at SKA, we offer Technology, Textiles and Food and Nutrition across years 7, 8 and 9 with the potential for further study in key stage four. All three of these subjects offer something exceptionally important for a broad and balanced education. Food and Nutrition It teaches important life skills, including preparing healthy meals, understanding nutrition, and making informed dietary choices. It promotes an awareness of eating a balanced diet, food safety and the impact of nutrition on physical and mental health. It reinforces science concepts. It opens doors for careers in dietetics, hospitality, food science and healthcare. Design and Technology It develops problem-solving skills. It encourages connections with STEM where science, technology, engineering and maths are integrated in more practical ways. It promotes an awareness of sustainability. It develops employability skills, including teamwork, project management and technical skills related to many industries. Textiles It encourages creativity and expression. Students develop practical skills involving fabric including sewing, pattern-making and fabric technology. It promotes an awareness of sustainability and ethics in relation to areas such as fast fashion, recycling and ethical production. It can lead to careers in fashion, costumer and interior design, to name a few. Studying these subjects together encourages innovation and creativity as well as improving independence and well-being.
