At the Skegness Academy, our ICT curriculum is designed to develop digitally literate, confident, and responsible young people who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and understanding required to succeed in an increasingly technology-driven world. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, students gain a broad understanding of computer systems, networking, programming, digital media, spreadsheet modelling, online safety, and emerging technologies.

We believe that it is vital for all our pupils to develop:

• The appropriate subject specific knowledge, skills and understanding as set out in the National Curriculum and beyond, so that pupils can flourish, reach and exceed their potential.
• A holistic set of values that prepares them for life in the modern world in a diverse and ever-changing community and work place.
• The behaviours that learners need to succeed in the world such as concentration, perseverance, imagination, co-operation, the enjoyment of learning, self-improvement and curiosity.
• And to have developed the social skills to understand society, build a personal morality, and to engage in the culture they live in and understand the cultures of others.

Our curriculum places a strong emphasis on disciplinary literacy, enabling students to communicate effectively using technical vocabulary, analyse information critically, and solve problems creatively. Alongside developing technical competence, students learn how to navigate the digital world safely, responsibly, and ethically, becoming informed digital citizens who can make positive contributions to society.

A key feature of our curriculum is its practical and hands-on approach to learning. Students build their confidence through a range of engaging projects that encourage creativity, collaboration, and independent thinking. From creating interactive programs using Scratch in the early years to exploring multimedia development and augmented reality applications, learners develop both the technical and transferable skills needed for future study and employment.

Inclusivity is central to our curriculum design. Lessons are carefully adapted to ensure that all students, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), can access learning, achieve success, and develop confidence in their digital abilities. Through appropriate scaffolding, differentiated resources, and targeted support, we strive to ensure every student can reach their full potential.

At Key Stage 4, students can further develop their expertise through the Cambridge Nationals in Information Technologies (CNAT) qualification. This course provides opportunities to investigate the impact of technology in the modern world while developing advanced skills in areas such as spreadsheet modelling, data analysis, and augmented reality. Students are encouraged to think critically about how technology is used within businesses and society, preparing them for the demands of further education and the workplace.

By exposing students to a diverse range of technological concepts and applications, the ICT curriculum opens pathways into careers including cyber security, software development, digital design, network management, data analytics, and emerging technology sectors. Whether students pursue a technology-based career or simply seek to strengthen their digital capability, our curriculum provides them with the skills, resilience, and adaptability required to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
