Preparing for Teaching (PfT)
This is a bespoke programme aimed at supporting students looking at applying for teaching degrees. Learners write a letter of application and then go through a strict interview process which is mirrored on School Direct. If successful students will start their training by observing lessons within their chosen subject area.
Students have weekly meetings with a mentor, who is a member of staff within their subject area. Students are encouraged to be reflective on their experiences and on the professional seminars they have attended. Students have one double period a week to work on their evidence folder and tasks set by the mentor.
Seminars are held one lunch time a week and are held by a lead professionals within the Academy. Students then write a reflection based on the learning from the seminar and then have to look for evidence within lessons they observe. Further to this they are set tasks based around the weekly topic to further develop their knowledge and understanding of the education system. Topics include AfL, assessment, G&T, SEN and differentiation.
As part of the programme, students build a folder of evidence showing the progress they have made of working towards the Q Standards. This includes reflections, seminar notes, meetings with their mentors and lesson observations and/or witness statements from mentors who observed them deliver part of a lesson.
